2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Clarke County completed the 2015 season with a 4-7 record. With their 2-4 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 4A region one, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Clarke County's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Leeds by a score of 43-0. The Bulldogs hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just four games which followed a 9-3 record in 2014. Clarke County was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Bulldogs want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.8 points a game. Since 2010, Clarke County has gone a combined 30-34. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 3A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Clarke County has managed to compile a record of 156-119. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 3A and 110th in the AHSAA. Junior Kelly was not retained as the head football coach at Clarke County after three seasons at the helm. His record was 16-17 with the 2014 team finishing with a 9-3 record and a playoff victory. Toby Green accepted the job but resigned in June to return to the Dothan area as an assistant coach at Dothan High School. Chris Young was named the head football coach in late June for the 2016 season. He was promoted from within the program. The Clarke County Bulldogs will play in Class 3A region one during the 2016 season. The Bulldogs may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 4A to 3A. They will compete in region one this year. The Bulldogs have one of the toughest schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 77-45 last season. That ranks 5th in Class 3A and 22nd in the AHSAA. Clarke County will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Bulldogs could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region one this season. Unfortunately, Clarke County plays in a region with the likes of Bayside Academy, Flomaton, Mobile Christian and T.R. Miller making it more difficult to claim one of the four playoff spots. The Bulldogs will need to find a way to upset one of those teams and win another three region games to have any chance at the post season. The Bulldogs open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Jackson on Thursday, August 25 at Legion Field. Last year the Jackson Aggies finished with an overall record of 13-1 and in first place in Class 5A region one. The Aggies lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 5A playoffs to St. Pauls by a score of 35-24. Clarke County and Jackson have met a total of 106 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 31-68-7 record against the Aggies. They last met in 2015 with Jackson winning by a score of 35-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
